Top 10 Canadian Films of the Decade

(January 20, 2010 - Toronto, Ontario) – Gary Burns (pictured above) and Jim Brown have teamed up again and are working through Burns Films with the National Film Board to produce a feature documentary-drama hybrid, The Future is Now! Costarring Liane Balaban and Paul Ahmarani, principal photography began on November 7th and should finish later this month after shooting across North America and Europe in cities like Montreal, New York and Paris.

In The Future Is Now! Liane Balaban plays a journalist who meets a guy who is an "Everyman," played by the Jutra Award-winning actor, Paul Ahmarani. His response to the seemingly chaotic state of the world is to isolate himself from greater society. In an effort to re-connect him with humanity, the journalist takes the audience along with Everyman on a journey of enlightenment to open their minds to a brighter future during an awe-inspiring exploration of arts and science. Through the great minds of such world-class talents as award-winning novelist Rivka Galchen (Atmospheric Disturbances), writer and philosopher Alain de Botton and innovative artist Marlene Dumas, they take a cinematic voyage of endless future possibilities through the fresh eyes of leading field experts.

"The NFB is pleased to be collaborating again with Gary and Jim on a timely film that looks at the ideals and possibilities of mankind," said Cindy Witten, Director General of the NFB English Program. "Their style of filmmaking challenges and engages audiences through a unique blend of documentary and drama."

The film will be theatrically released in Canada by E1 Entertainment Canada and in the rest of the world by the National Film Board. "This unique cinematic offering will intrigue audiences, provoking reflection and conversation with astounding insight.” said Bryan Gliserman, Co-President of E1 Entertainment Canada.

The Future Is Now! is produced by Shirley Vercruysse and George Baptist (Burns Film Ltd.), Bonnie Thompson (National Film Board) and executive produced by David Christensen (National Film Board). The Future is Now! is produced by Burns Films Ltd. in co-production with the National Film Board of Canada and in association with Telefilm Canada, the Alberta Government Film Development Program and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit.

Most recently Gary Burns and Jim Brown worked together on the 2006 film, Radiant City. No release date for The Future is Now! has been announced.
