(July 20, 2012 - Toronto, Ontario) The National Film Board of Canada has announced that its animated production Flawed by Halifax filmmaker Andrea Dorfman has earned a News & Documentary Emmy nomination, in the New Approaches to News & Documentary Programming: Documentaries category. Produced by Annette Clarke of the NFB’s Atlantic Centre, this is Ms. Dorfman’s first Emmy nomination. The News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented October 1 in New York City.

"I think the world of television is opening up to all different kinds of art forms, and viewers are becoming so literate and are open to different formats. At the end of the day, it's about storytelling. If the story is strong, the audience will connect to it and I think Flawed is a film that resonates with people. I'm completely honoured that the film is up<Andrea Dorfman> for an Emmy Award and I'm so grateful to the NFB. It's meant that the film was far-reaching and they got it to PBS in the USA, where it became eligible for the nomination. There are so many incredible short films out there," said Dorfman.

A personal short film, Flawed tells the story of how one woman’s interesting life becomes all the more exciting when she embraces her flaws. Using a series of colourful hand-made postcards and stop-motion animation, the film is a sometimes playful, occasionally serious, and always heartfelt reflection on the modern obsession with being flawless.

An interactive version of Flawed is available online from the NFB.

Andrea Dorfman is a multiple award-winning, critically acclaimed artist and filmmaker based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She is currently working in animation at the National Film Board. Her current film with the NFB, Big Mouth (2012) was released this past spring at the World Wide Short Film Festival.
