Academy Announces Gemini Nominations

(August 25, 2009 - Toronto, Ontario) – The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television has announced the nominations for the 24th Annual Gemini Awards. The 2009 Gala will take place on Saturday, November 14th in Calgary, Alberta and will be broadcast live on Global and Showcase. The drama Flashpoint leads with a record 19 nominations, followed by The Tudors with 11 nominations. Being Erica, Diamonds, Less Than Kind, and The Border each received 9 nominations. The complete list of nominees runs through a total of 99 categories and covers all aspects of the television industry from casting to editing to best host of a news show. Due to the number of awards the Academy decided a few years back to spread the event across a number of days. The 2009 Industry Galas will take place on October 19th and 20th in Toronto at The Sound Academy when the Gemini for News, Sports, Documentary, Lifestyle, Drama, Comedy and Variety Awards will be among the categories presented. Then, almost a month later, the 2009 Broadcast Gala will take place in Calgary. Northernstars congratulates all of the nominees of the 2009 Gemini Awards.
