The pedigree of this show dates back 20 years to the original French film titled Nikita, who was played by Anne Parillaud. In that film and in the 1993 Americanized version Point of No Return that starred Bridget Fonda, as well as in the 1997-2001 series, La Femme Nikita starring Peta Wilson, the main character was a criminal drug user transformed by some mysterious government agency known as Division, into a highly effective assassin. All that changes in this new incarnation.
Maggie Q, as Nikita, has finally escaped the clutches of her handlers and captors and now works to bring down Division. But, of course, the work of Division goes on as they continue to target young people from troubled backgrounds, erasing all evidence of their past lives and turning them into efficient spies and assassins. Nikita is the first recruit to escape, but having trained her, Agent Michael is ordered by Division boss Percy to deal with his former student.
Shot in Canada, this is a large, expensive television production. One crew member when asked how many people would be working behind the scenes on today's shoot estimate somewhere "between 50 and 60." As it's being shot in Canada, the Warner Bros. production features a number of Canadians in the cast including Mark Day as Agent Lloyd.
Maggie Q can claim a distant connection to Canada. She was born in Hawaii to an American father of Polish, French Canadian and Irish descent, and a Vietnamese mother.
