(August 31, 2010 - Toronto, Ontario) – Anyone who watches Canadian television should have had a pretty good idea that the series Flashpoint would be in line for a number of nominations for this year's Gemini Awards, which recognize excellence in Canadian television. The series has consistently offered some of the highest production values, terrific performances and compelling stories ever produced for the small screen anywhere. And so as hosts Patrick McKenna and Anna Silk began announcing a short list of nominations, it came as no surprise to us that the title Flashpoint was repeated so many times.

In the end, the tally for Flashpoint reached 15 nominations including Best Dramatic Series. In the large crowd at the Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto this morning were costars Enrico Colantoni, who was actually nominated for a guest appearance on another series, Cra$h & Burn, and Canadian Film News Sergio Di Zio, who was nominated for a Gemini in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series for his work on Flashpoint.

Coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games came in second in the total nominations with 13 including Best Live Sporting Event. Bloodletting And Miraculous Cures, Guns, Stargate Universe, and The Summit are up for awards in 9 categories each; Less Than Kind and Love, Hate and Propaganda each received 8 nominations.

This year’s celebrations will be held in Toronto over three nights in November. The Industry Gala Presentations will take place on Tuesday November 2nd and Wednesday November 3rd at the Kool Haus Entertainment Complex; the Broadcast Gala will take place on Saturday November 13th at the historic Winter Garden Theatre and will be broadcast live-to-tape on Global and Showcase.

Speaking before the announcements got underway, Sara Morton, CEO, Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television said, "This year’s nominations reflect an industry that is confident and flourishing. Our shows are successful here in Canada and around the world. We are proud to celebrate this year’s achievements as well as pay tribute to the shows and colleagues that have paved the way for this year’s nominations."
