Douglas Coupland became internationally known with the publication of his best-selling book, Generation X: Tales of an Accelerated Culture. Born on a Canadian military base, he returned to Vancouver when he was four years old. Following graduation from the Emily Carr College of Art & Design in Vancouver in 1984 where he was enrolled in the studio program in sculpture, he traveled to Hawaii, then to the European Design Institute in Milan, Italy, and the Hokkaido College of Art & Design in Sapporo, Japan. He enjoyed early success as a sculptor, including a 1987 solo show at the Vancouver Art Gallery entitled The Floating World. Credited with conceiving the term and concept of Generation X, he has repeatedly resisted being called the spokesperson for his generation. In addition to his 18 novels to date he wrote Everything's Gone Green, which is his first story specifically written for the screen. More recently he completed Mom’s Cookies for Disney films. His script for Generation X has been optioned and All Families Are Psychotic has been optioned by Dreamworks. He also narrated the movie, Souvenir of Canada, which was based on his book.
