Réjean Ducharme is a highly reclusive novelist, playwright, songwriter and screenwriter. He has guarded his privacy since the publication of his first book, L'Avalée des avalés in 1966, which won the Governor General's Award. Educated at the Juvénat des Clercs de Saint-Viateur and at the École Polytechnique in Montréal, which he left after one year, it is said that he never appears in public.
