Although born in Sweden, Malin Akerman's family moved to Toronto when she was just two years old. Her parents would later divorce and she moved with her mother to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, home of The Shaw Festival. Eventually she returned to Toronto and attended the North Toronto Collegiate Institute. At the age of seventeen, Akerman won the Ford Supermodel of Canada search and as a result landed a number of television commercials. She eventually decided to pursue a career in acting and moved to California. Ackerman plays the dual role of Laurie Jupiter / Silk Spectre II in Watchmen.
