The image on the left is a detail from a studio portrait made for "Shadow of Their Wings" that was released as Wings of the Eagle in 1942. The photograph, by Madison Lacy for Warner Bros., is now in the Northernstars Collection, as is the photo of Jack Carson and Alexis Smith from Gentleman Jim on the right.
John Elmer Carson was born in Manitoba but raised in Milwaukee, which he always thought of as his real hometown. He went to Carroll College then struck out to be an entertainer on the vaudeville circuit. He was signed by RKO then moved to Warner Bros. in 1941.
