Deanna Durbin started out in life as Edna Mae Durbin. Although born in Winnipeg, she lived most of her life in Los Angeles. Her parents, who were originally British, moved there in 1922 because of her father's health. She was an average little girl growing up in the entertainment capital of the world. How could she not wind up in the business? In 1932 she began taking singing lessons and originally hoped to have a career as an opera singer.
