MAUDE EBURNE b. November 10, 1875 at Bronte-on-the Lake, Ontario d. October 15, 1960 in Hollywood, California
Maude Eburne in a close-up from a publicty still for the Vampire Bat, which costarred Fay Wray. Eburne began her career on stage and like most successful actors of that time eventually found herself on Broadway. She appeared in The Old Firm in 1913. At least 13 more plays followed, most of them comedies, including The Half Moon in 1920, Lady Butterfly in 1923, Three Cheers in 1928 and Many a Slip in 1930. With the arrival of the "talkies," where actors with voices obviously became suddenly very important, Eburne left the stage to concentrate on her film career. She made her screen debut in The Bat Whispers and was 76 when she retired from film after the religious semi-epic The Prince of Peace in 1951.
