Nathan Fillion grew up wanting to be a teacher just like his mom and dad, but became interested in acting while still in school. He took classes at Edmonton's Theatresports Workshops, and while appearing in that city's famous Fringe Festival, he was spotted by an agent who offered to represent the young actor. At first he landed small roles, but in 1994 when he was in his early 20s, he accepted an offer to join the cast of the TV soap, One Life to Live and spent the next few years as Joey Buchanan. He stars as Richard Castle, a bestselling crime-horror novelist who helps solve real crimes, in the series, Castle.
