Victor Garber was interested in acting from a very early age and was involved with children's theatre at the age of 9. At 15 he became the youngest member of the University of Toronto's Hart House troupe. At 18 he formed a folk band, The Sugar Shoppe which signed a recording contract with Capital Records, and enjoyed appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show. A chance visit by the band to the rock opera, Godspell in Los Angeles re-ignited his love of the stage. After the band broke up he returned to Toronto and joined Toronto Workshop Productions. Shortly after he landed the lead for the Toronto production of Godspell, film director, David Greene happened to attend the opening night and when he was hired to direct the film version he hired Garber to reprise his role of Jesus for the screen. He was nominated for Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for his role in Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows, and Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for an appearance on an episode of Frasier. Garber played Canadian diplomat Ken Taylor in the Academy Award-winning film, Argo.
