David Hewlett came to Canada with his family at an early age and says he has been acting for almost half his life. After dropping out of Toronto's St. George's College Choir School for Boys in Grade 12, he pursued careers in computers and acting simultaneously. He describes himself as self-taught in both specialties. Hewlett gravitated toward acting in high school and continued along the classic struggling actor career path for about ten years before his career began to take off. Hewlett is best known for his role as Dr. Rodney McKay on the science fiction television shows Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis.
