Barbara Kozicki may have been born in British Columbia but the actor and dancer grew up in Calgary, Alberta. She began her acting career at the age of 15 in the Patrick McLaughlin film Panorama. After graduating from high school, she traveled Europe for a year where she completed the Summer Language Program at the University of Krakow (Poland) and attended the 1998 Edinburgh Festival in Scotland where she first developed her fascination for the art of Poi.
