When Canadian actors decide to leave home they most often head for Hollywood. Some, however, go to England. Raymond Massey may be the most famous example, but Paul Massie, who had started out in life as Arthur Massie, also had a highly successful stage and film career in England. In 1958 he won the British Film Award as the Most Promising Newcomer for his work in Orders to Kill. He also returned to work in Canada on a regular basis appearing in at least one CBC televised drama, as well as on stage at the Stratford Festival. Massie left his career in 1966, although took small parts long after that. He moved first to Florida where he was a teacher at the University of Southern Florida. Later he retired and settled in Eagle Head, Nova Scotia. He died of lung cancer one month shy of his 79th birthday.
