Alanis Nadine Morissette is a former child actress. In her childhood, she began playing piano and writing songs but at the age of ten she joined the cast of You Can't Do That on Television. Using money she earned from that work, she recorded an independent single which was released when she was ten. After leaving the show, Alanis decided to concentrate on a musical career, signing a music publishing contract when she was just 14 years old. The publishing contract led to a record deal with MCA/Canada and in 1991 she moved to Toronto and released her debut album, Alanis. Alanis shared narration duties with Keanu Reeves in 2004's environmental TV series, The Great Warming.
