Deborah Kara Unger was the first Canadian-born actress to be accepted at the prestigious Australian National Institute of Dramatic Art. While in Australia, she made her professional debut on the 1989 television miniseries, Bangkok Hilton, in which she co-starred with Nicole Kidman. Before becoming an actress, she studied economics and philosophy at University of British Columbia.
