Katya Virshilas, who also shows up in the credits as Keti, or Katie, was born in Lithuania but moved with her family first to Israel and then to Canada when she was 13-years-old. She began doing jazz dancing when she was five in Lithuania. She moved on to latin and ballroom a year after landing in Vancouver, attending the Yasel DanceSport Academy, under directors Viktor Yasel and Irina-Prodan Yasel. She was the Amateur Latin BC Champion in 1999 and 2000 with her partner at that time Jason Tabachnicov. She decided in July 2001 to move to Toronto, Ontario where she met her next dancing partner Dmitry Ilyushenov. She made her acting debut in the 2004 movie Shall we dance, starring Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez.
