Mark Whelan is primarily a stage actor. Recent credits include Martin McDonagh’s A Skull in Connamara, which is a musical adaptation of James Joyce's The Dead, Hugh Leonard's Da, Dinner with Friends, and Sam Shepard’s A Lie of the Mind. In 2004 he appeared as George in the Alumnae Theatre production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe. Whelan was also in Of Mice and Men for Tribal Productions, and Guy Vanderhague’s Dancock's Dance for Amicus Productions. He played the role of Jacob Mercer in David French's 1949, for which he received both a Thea and a Theatre Ontario Award.
