CHARLES BINAMÉ

Charles Binamé began his film career as an assistant director at the National Film Board in 1971, and later moved on to direct documentaries for television. He also worked as a commercial director in Québec. He spent two years in the mid-80s directing commercials in England. He returned to Canada, and began to look for dramatic projects, including TV movies and mini-series. Binamé's series Blanche won a gold award at the International Audiovisual Program Festival (FIPA) in Cannes and seven Prix Gémeaux from the Academy of Canadian Film and Television in Montréal. Marguerite Volant (1996) won a silver FIPA at Biarritz and four Prix Gémeaux in Montréal. C'était le 12 du 12 et Chili avait les blues, was selected by the Sundance Film Festival, and Eldorado was selected for the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes film festival, in addition to receiving an honourable mention from the Confédération internationale des cinémas d'art et d'essai européens. Maurice Richard swept the 2006 Genies earning 9 of the coveted awards including one for Best Director.
