Denis Côté

Montreal-based producer, director, screenwriter and critic Denis Côté has been a vital part of Quebec’s independent, low-budget film scene, as director and collaborator on a series of distinct and original shorts. His first feature-length film was the 2005 release, Les États nordiques, which told the story of a man who escapes to a small Arctic community after euthanizing his aged mother. He is pictured above in a publicity still for his 2009 film, Carcasses. His 2013 drama, Vic + Flo ont vu un ours (Vic + Flo Saw a Bear) had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival and won the prestigious Golden Bear, Alfred Bauer Prize for innovation. The award, in memory of the festival founder, was presented by jury president and acclaimed director, Wong Kar Wai, who said the film opened "new perspectives.”
