David Cronenberg was given a Best Director Genie in 2003 for his film, Spider. His 2005 film, A History of Violence received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for writer Josh Olson. Cronenberg received France's Légion d'honneur on April 1st, 2009. It is France's oldest and highest military and civilian distinction. Production of his latest feature, Maps to the Stars, an eOne release, is slated to begin in Toronto in July of 2013.
