Videodrome (1983)

<Videodrome, movie poster>

Videodrome’s hero, Max Renn (James Woods), is a hustling cable-TV operator looking for a new show to boost his ratings when he comes across an underground broadcast called Videodrome that features real life torture and snuff films. Convinced this is the way forward and exactly what he has been looking for, he and girlfriend Nicki Brand (Deborah Harry) search for the show's creators, only to find themselves involved in a conspiracy involving the use of the TV as a mind altering device. Some people once claimed that Cronenberg’s debut feature, Shivers, anticipated AIDS; certainly, Videodrome points toward today’s quest for psycho-sexual fulfilment on the Internet. David Cronenberg won a Genie Award for Direction for his work on Videodrome.
