Better Than Chocolate(1999)

Better Than Chocolate

Better than Chocolate is a sexy romp of love and lust that centres on nineteen-year-old Maggie. A recent dropped out from law school, she
is working as a sales clerk at a gay bookstore in Vancouver that is constantly having its shipments confiscated by Canada Customs. Early in the film Maggie is saved from a gang of skinheads when a minibus arrives out of nowhere and out jumps the young, very attractive, Kim. This is their first meeting, and they part as friends. Meanwhile Maggie's ultra-conservative mother (Wendy Crewson) decides to leave her second husband for a while, and arrives with her young son at an apartment she believes belongs to Maggie. In fact Maggie is only housesitting the apartment for a transsexual cabaret performer who is on tour (Peter Outerbridge). But at this point in the story Maggie and Kim have met up again and her mother arrives to discover the two women making love in the shower. The film is a slight, traditional romantic comedy in which Maggie's clandestine romance introduces her family to a host of new experiences, all of which are potentially... better than chocolate.
