Best described as a wry drama with lots of comedy, Last Wedding paints a picture of its creator, director Bruce Sweeney, as one who sees life as absurd rather than tragic. Noah (Ben Ratner), a Vancouver weatherproofing specialist, is preparing to marry Zipporah (Frida Betrani), a wannabe country music singer. His best friend, Peter (Tom Scholte), is a CanLit professor who’s relationship with librarian Leslie (Nancy Sivak) is threatened by the arrival of the beautiful student (Marya Delver). Meanwhile, Noah’s and Peter’s other close friend Shane (Vincent Gale), is an architect who has a seemingly wonderful relationship with Sarah (Molly Parker), until she graduates and lands a better job than the one he has. Last Wedding is so much a male film that it can be read as a treatise on contemporary male dysfunction.
