When One Week begins, Ben Tyler (Joshua Jackson) is getting the news that he has terminal cancer. Passing quickly through the denial phase, he decides he needs to act. He is overpowered by a need to capture some unknown yet vital experience while he still has some time. He needs to hit the road, and to do it alone, which obviously is going to complicate his relationship with fiancé, Samantha (Liane Biliban). Setting his sights on a cross-Canada road trip, he buys a vintage motorcycle and leaves Toronto heading west on the Trans-Canada Highway. Samantha tries to reconnect with her fiancé in a series of increasingly concerned calls from Toronto but Ben continues west, hitting the open spaces of the Prairies and the stunning, sometimes frightening beauty of the Rocky Mountains.
