Summerhood has been called a movie about children but not for children. The 2008 Atlantic Film Festival wrote, "Jacob Medjuck?s long-awaited summer camp comedy has arrived with an industrial-strength sense of humour, a touch of melancholy and a killer ?80s soundtrack. With marvelous narration by Hollywood heavyweight John Cusack, Summerhood chronicles a pivotal summer in the life of a 10-year-old nicknamed "Fetus" who falls head over heels for the camp?s local preteen beauty. Fetus and his posse have earned their title as the summer resort?s tricksters and outcasts, as they dedicate their time and energy to sinking paddleboats and meddling with the camp public address system. Blisteringly funny and beautifully written, Summerhood joins Meatballs and Bless the Beasts and the Children in the elite cadre of the best summer camp movies of all time."
Summerhood has so far won seven of the nine film festivals it has entered including being named Best Comedy at the Family Film Festival and being selected the winner of the Audience Award at the Atlantic Film Festival. The film is based on Jacob Medjuck's diary from when he was 10-years-old. When he came across it a few years ago he thought, "Wouldn't it be
fun to hear kids act this out loud?"
