Carcasses (2009)

Jean-Paul Colmor is now 74 years old. After a serious accident, he opted for early retirement but has been collecting cars, scrap metal and junk for more than 40 years. More than just recycling and selling car parts, Colmor has created an unthinkable landscape that could be viewed as being full of memories. Every day he visits his lot, carts scrap iron, inventories his parts and other rusting gems. His small house is equally strange: a kind of shelter where a visitor can just make out the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom in all the mess. Living among tons and tons of debris, he quietly works all day on his unimaginable property, furnishing and dealing car parts to mechanics and other iron afficionados. One day four uninvited, unexpceted visitors arrive in search of a corner of twisted paradise. Carcasses uses both documentary and fictitious elements to try to find the soul of a decidely unreal place. It screened as part of the Directors' Fortnight at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
