Northern Stars began as an idea for a television documentary series long before the internet became what it is today. Our research concentrated on the very earliest years and ranged roughly between 1895 and 1935. As the internet came into its own and the possibilities of sharing our research grew it became clear we would have to greatly expand our base of information if we wanted this site to be of any use at all. As a result this site is now a constantly changing resource if you're looking for information about Canadians in the movies. It is updated daily.

In some cases new or recent actors may be missing because we have not been able to find enough information about them. Many are simply unknown to us.

In other cases filmographies are incomplete because after checking as many as five sources, some films may still have been missed. This is particularly true of the early years. For example, one printed source which claims to offer the most "complete" filmographies available somehow completely missed Mary Pickford.
