Molly Parker to Return to the Stage

;Monsoon kicks off Top 10 Film Festival;
(January 6, 2015 – Toronto, ON) It`s been 18 years since Molly Parker last trod the boards. Eager fans of her stage work have watched her career rise on television and in film and in March will be able to see her again when she stars in a new drama written by Olivier Award-winning creator Simon Stephens. It`s titled Harper Regan and it`s being launched on March 1st in Toronto by Canadian Stage.

Born in 1972 and raised on what she has referred to as “a hippie farm” in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Parker discovered she had a passion for acting while she was a teenager. Though she had been training in ballet since she was three years old – including three years with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet – she decided to pursue acting at 16 years old. Her actor uncle introduced her to his agent and over the next few years she won a number of small roles in television series and movies-of-the-week.

Harper Regan playwright Simon Stephens is known for his Olivier Award-winning adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and the gritty dramas, Punk Rock and Port. While Stephens’ plays are performed internationally, this production at Canadian Stage will mark the first performance of his work on a main stage in this country. Harper Regan follows a woman’s struggle to balance the difficulties of her personal and family life. One autumn evening, after learning of her father’s illness, Harper Regan (Parker) walks away from her job, her home, her husband, her daughter, and doesn’t look back. She tells no one where she’s going or whether she’s coming back, putting everything she’s ever worked for at risk. Her journey explores the relationship between death and sexuality, the meaning of loyalty and the bonds of family.

Harper Regan will be directed by Canadian Stage artistic & general director Matthew Jocelyn whose 2013 production This was called, “one of the best plays of this or any other season” by Toronto`s NOW Magazine.

Additional casting for Harper Regan will be announced soon and tickets for the play, which runs from March 1 to 22nd are available online. Click here for more about Molly Parker.
