19 Months takes a very close look at the lives of Rob and Melanie. Having read in a newspaper that the sexual passion of a couple expires after about 19 months, they have decided to end their relationship. But they see no reason for this to be unpleasant and so decide to stay together until both have found a new partner. While this sounds simple, things get a little more complicated when they invite a documentary filmmaker to show the world their “new and better way of breaking up.” As the cameras follow them everywhere, it quickly becomes evident that this couple`s brilliant plan is not going to be as simple in practice as it sounds on paper. Instead of a revolutionary “new way of loving,” Rob and Melanie are destined to act out the painful and typical break up they tried so hard to avoid. The last shreds of “the plan” fall away, leaving Rob and Melanie to pick up the pieces in front of the nosy and manipulative film crew.
