Jean Lapointe was a humourist, singer/songwriter, actor and Senator. He started his preforming career when he was 15-years-old old in Quebec City, where he formed his first group, Les Québécaires, and worked at the local radio station, CHRC. His career as an actor included the title role of one of Québec’s most controversial premiers, Maurice Duplessis, in the 1977 mini-series. Named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1984, he was given a Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada from the Governor General as well as two honourary doctorates from Québec universities. He was also a Life Member of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada. On June 13, 2001 Jean Lapointe was appointed to the Canadian Senate and retired on December 6, 2010 when he turned 75, the mandatory retirement age. He became an Officer of the National Order of Quebec in 2006. He was 86 when he died November 18, 2022 in Montréal.
