Philip “Phil” Edward Hartman was a writer, actor and comedian. Although born in Brantford, Ontario, he moved to the United States while still relatively young and graduated from Westchester High School in Los Angeles, California. He became a U.S. citizen in the early 1990s. He died after being shot by his wife, Brynn, who turned the gun on herself. The reasons for the murder/suicide are unknown, although friends of the Hartmans speculated in the press that a combination of marriage problems and Brynn’s addiction to drugs probably contributed.
