Although born in Sweden, Malin Akerman’s family moved to Toronto when she was just two years old. Her parents would later divorce and she moved with her mother to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, home of The Shaw Festival. Eventually she returned to Toronto and attended the North Toronto Collegiate Institute. In an interview with the Toronto Star, Akerman once said, “Every time I’m in Canada I feel more Swedish, and every time I’m in Sweden I feel more Canadian. I belong in both places and I love them both equally.” At the age of seventeen, Akerman won the Ford Supermodel of Canada search and as a result landed a number of television commercials. She eventually decided to pursue a career in acting and moved to California. Ackerman played the dual role of Laurie Jupiter and Silk Spectre II in Watchmen. She played the role of Lara Axelrod opposite Paul Giamatti (as Chuck Rhoades) and Damian Lewis (as Bobby Axelrod) in 37 episodes of the Showtime drama series Billions. Akerman costared with Dwayne Johnson and Naomie Harris in Rampage. The 2018 Warner Bros. film was directed by Canadian Brad Peyton with a score from Ontario-born composer Andrew Lockington. |
