Local media in Ladysmith B.C. stated that Pamela Denise Anderson was the first baby in their area to be born on Canada Day 1967. She grew up and went to school in Comox also on Vancouver Island, known in some circles as the home of the RCAF’s 19th Wing. When she was 21 she moved to Vancouver hoping for a career as a fitness instructor. Her career path took a dramatic turn when a local TV cameraman covering a B.C. Lions football game focused on the young, good looking woman and someone in the control room grabbed the shot and sent it to the stadium’s enormous screen. Anderson happened to be wearing a Labatt’s beer t-shirt and was almost immediately offered a promotion contact by the company. This brought an offer to pose for Playboy magazine. She made her magazine debut in October of 1989, appropriately on the cover of the magazine’s annual NFL preview issue. She would go on to make 13 appearances on the cover of Playboy. In December of 2016, Playboy announced that the then 48-year-old former Baywatch star would make her 14th cover appearance for the January/February 2016 edition. She also appeared in a 12-page photo spread making her the last person to pose nude for Playboy, bringing an end to the more than 60-year tradition of the publication. Thanks to Baywatch, Anderson had become the world’s number one pinup girl. She was on the cover of a 1995 Maclean’s magazine with caption, “The Most Famous Canadian on the Planet?” Pamela Anderson, pictured with Dwayne Johnson, has a cameo in the 2017 movie Baywatch opening May 25.
