Cordell Barker is an animator and director. He began his career in 1974 working for Sesame Street and collaborating on a number of commercials. In 1982, he joined the National Film Board where he made his first film, The Cat Came Back in 1988. The short was a huge audience favourite and garnered 16 awards in addition to picking up an Oscar® nomination. He subsequently returned to advertising, directing commercials for a number of major companies before returning to filmmaking in 2001. It was announced in May of 2010 and he was returning to the NFB as a creative consultant to the Prairie and North West centres. He will advise NFB producers on animation projects generated in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, as well as work from the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
