Pierre Florent Brault was a prolific and popular composer who has created scores for many Quebec features, shorts and animated films, mostly for the National Film Board of Canada. His film work includes contributions to Frédéric Back’s Abracadabra, Claude Jutra’s Rouli-roulant and Gilles Carle’s Le viol d’une jeune fille douce and La vraie nature de Bernadette. He also worked on television, and was the creator, along with the guitarist and composer Michel Robidoux, of numerous songs for Passe-Partout, Télé-Québec’s and Radio-Canada’s cult-favourite children’s TV program. Those songs became so popular at the time that most Quebecers still remember them by heart. The first album of original songs from the series, which was released in 1980, sold 175,000 copies. A member of SOCAN, his list of published songs contains more than 400 compositions. Pierre F. Brault was 74 when he died in Sherbrooke, Québec. |
