Clifford Bruce played the role of Gypsy Leader in the 1914 theatrical serial The Perils of Pauline. Originally released in 20 chapters, Pearl White played the title character of Pauline. The Perils of Pauline was used by Universal Studios for a 1933 sound serial but followed a different plot. It was also used by Paramount Pictures with Betty Hutton in the title role in 1947. Universal used it again again in 1967 as an updated comedy.
