B: 1960 in Calgary Alberta

Gary Burns studied Fine Arts and Drama at the University of Calgary and then attended Concordia in Montréal where he graduated from their film program in 1992. His film waydowntown was given the Best Canadian Feature prize at the 2000 Toronto International Film Festival. At the 1997 Vancouver Film Festival he was awarded Best Emerging Director for Kitchen Party.
