Érik Canuel was born into a theatrical family who introduced him to the stage at an early age. He tried his hand at movie making and enrolled in the film production faculty at Concordia University. Over a period of three years, he worked on some 82 then founded Kino Films, a small production company while in his last year at the university. In 1992, he joined Cinélande, Montreal`s largest television commercial production company and went on to direct more than 200 commercials, 50 rock videos, and an impressive number of television episodes.
