Normand Corbeil was a highly successful audio-visual composer. In his career he had earned two audiovisual music composition awards in September if 2012 as part of the Crafts segment of the 27th annual Gémeaux Awards celebrating excellence in French-language television in Canada. This was for his work on the series, Vertige. One award was for best original music score for a dramatic series, and one for best music theme, all categories. Corbeil also won Genie and Jutra awards and was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards. In demand in the United States, Corbeil worked on films with American stars like Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, John Cusack and Rupert Graves. Besides scoring such successful Québec films as Babine, Grande Ourse and Le Déserteur, Corbeil contributed original video game music to Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August 2012 and was 56 when he died just five months later.
