Described as “one of the pillars of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival,” Peter Donaldson was married to Sheila McCarthy. He won a Genie Award in 1996 for his role as Jamie in the film version of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night. He died in Toronto losing a battle with lung cancer. A partial list of his stage credits includes Caesar and Cleopatra, To Kill a Mockingbird, King Lear, Much Ado About Nothing, Hello Dolly!, Guys and Dolls, Antony and Cleopatra, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Taming of the Shrew, Hamlet and King Lear.
