Alisen Elizabeth Jean Down grew up wanting to act and after starting in local theatre she moved to the United States as soon as she could to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. While there she won the Charles Jehlinger Award for excellence in acting. After appearing in two short films, Down then traveled to Oxford, England to study at the British-American Dramatic Academy where she trained with the Academy Award-winning actor Ben Kingsley. Back in Canada her career began when she landed a guest role on CBC’s DaVinci’s Inquest (starring Nicholas Campbell) which brought her a Gemini nomination. Her guest role on an episode of Cold Squad won her that coveted award. Both the nomination and the award came in 2000. She went on to join the cast of Da Vinci’s Inquest playing the role of Dr. Maria Donato in 2003 and 2004. Her character was retained when the show changed to follow its fictional character’s ambitions to be mayor and the title became Da Vinci’s City Hall. Unfortunately that series didn’t last. More recently she played Kathy Eaton in the mini-series Gracepoint, which was a North American remake of the British mini-series Broadchurch, and Olivia in 31 episodes of 12 Monkeys between 2015 and 2018. |
