Elliot Page had a desire to act when he was still very young, in fact before becoming a teenager. They began drama training at the Neptune Theatre School at 10-years-old. An appearance in the made-for-television movie Pit Pony resulted in a Young Artist Award nomination for Best Performance, as well as a Gemini nomination for Best Performance in a Children’s or Youth Program or Series. Several awards followed from, for example, the Atlantic Film Festival for Wilby Wonderful; a Gemini for Best Performance for work on the TV series, ReGenesis. Their breakout role in Jason Reitman’s hit comedy Juno (2007), Page received nominations for an Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe and SAG Best Actress nominations, winning the Independent Spirit Award for their performance. On December 1, 2020 Page, who currently stars on Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, announced he is transgender and non-binary. “I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community.” Netflix posted its own Tweet, “So proud of our superhero! WE LOVE YOU ELLIOT! Can’t wait to see you return in season 3!” Also see: TIFF 2022 – Day Six |
