Set in the near future, what we call video games have become near reality. As the lines between digital fantasy and what we think is real begin to blur, a movement of revolutionaries decides to destroy the game industry before it overtakes the world. An assassination attempt is made on celebrity virtual reality games designer, Allegra Geller (Jennifer Jason Leigh), as she premieres her new virtual reality game called eXistenZ in a church. She escapes, along with by her security aide, Ted Pikul (Jude Law). Attempting to introduce the virtual-reality neophyte to her work, she has Ted implanted with a spinal bio-port that people need if they want to play the games. But once inside eXistenZ, they are drawn into a war between two rival factions seeking control of the game that leaves neither of them sure what is real and what is illusion. The poster for eXistenZ is scanned from an original in the Northernstars Collection. |
