Nisha Ganatra also appeared in front of the camera, performing in Chutney Popcorn with Jill Hennessy and in a movie directed by Hennessy in 2000 titled The Acting Class. Before making films, Ganatra worked as a personal assistant to Tom Arnold and Roseanne and worked with Lucasfilm’s THX department on Schindler’s List and When a Man Loves a Woman. JunkyPunkyGirlz, the short Nisha directed while at New York University’s Graduate Film School, has won many awards including NYU’s prestigious Tisch Fellowship, and the PBS series Grand Prize for Most Outstanding Short Film of the year. While at NYU, Nisha studied with directors Spike Lee, Martin Scorsese, and Barbara Kopple. She is the recipient of the Warner Brothers Production Award for her film work at NYU. Her acclaimed 2014 series Transparent, won a Golden Globe for best television series, musical or comedy, and also received numerous Emmy nominations.
