Set in Irénée-les-Neiges, a tiny Quebec village of just 215 people, a car drives off the road and into a wall of concrete blocks, instantly killing Simon Dubé, the 21-year-old hockey player behind the wheel. Returning to the scene of the tragedy to try to understand what happened, his older brother Jimmy and his mother Gisele, don’t know if what happened was a suicide or just a strange accident. They soon become witnesses to a truly strange phenomena. Masked people are wandering, haunting the windy fields and the nearby snowy barns. But what is happening and who are these strange, fleeting figures, some of whom have familiar faces? Titled in French as Répertoire des villes disparues, Denis Côté’s screenplay is loosely based on a novel of the same title by Laurence Olivier. Shot on 16mm film, Ghost Town Anthology was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival. |
