Rémy Girard (pictured above in the trailer for the 2023 film Testament) became an actor thanks to a happy decision he made in 1969. He was a law student back then and one day he joined the legendary Troupe des Treize at the Université de Laval. Much later, when he had become a working actor, he was approached by director Denys Arcand following the performance of a play. Arcand said he would like to use Rémy in his next film. Rémy figured the famous director was just being polite, but one day the phone rang and it turned out to be the most important call in his life. He was being offered the lead in The Decline of the American Empire. Although not his first film, it essentially launched his career and he has never looked back. Over the years he has worked with Arcand in five films, returning to reprise his first role for the 2003 film, The Barbarian Invasions. So far his career has produced four Genie Awards for his work in film, and four Gemeaux for his work on television. Also see: Rémy Girard stars in Denys Arcand’s 2023 feature Testament.
