Grace Dove

6

B: July 25, 1991 in Canim Lake, British Columbia

Grace Dove was about 10 years old when she began to pursue her dream of becoming an actor. She applied for a part on a local kids’ show titled Splatterday in Prince George, British Columbia, and she got the part. A few years later she began taking drama classes at the Heather Park Middle School and then at the Kelly Road Secondary School’s respected drama department. Still later she moved down the coast to attend the Vancouver Film School. Upon graduation, Dove launched a nearly constant regimen of unsuccessful auditions. She eventually landed a steady role on the reality TV show underEXPOSED on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), which described her as a “22 year-old Aboriginal woman determined to become action sports photography’s next rising star.” While working on that series she still went to auditions, and had landed a small part in the U.S. feature The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Hugh Glass. But before filming began in British Columbia the casting directors decided she would be perfect as DiCaprio’s love interest, playing his wife. As she noted during opening ceremonies for the film in Los Angeles, her actual ancestors had lived in north-central B.C. and lived the way it was portrayed in the film, off the land, one with the environment, less than 100 years ago.
